When the kids were young.

During the late 60's and 70's school trips were very much part of our life. From Kipushya to Sakeji school took us about four days including stop-overs at Kamina. The roads were bad, and in the rainy season it was a slower journey. However, during the dry season months we enjoyed camping out in the African 'bush' under a skyfull of stars. Our trusty Forward Control Land Rover was kept in the peak of condition for long distances without any hope of help if there was a breakdown. It had a bumper to bumper service before each trip. In the picture on this occasion we have (back row) Lloyd and Paul Rowlands. Front row - Alison and David Rowlands and Joy Brinkman.

Here we have a picture of one of our holiday camps by the Lomami river near Kamina. Always a geat time. A highlight was sitting around the camp fire in the evenings and telling stories. During one of these camps we read the story of the Wilkerson family. It was David Wilkerson who founded the now world-wide Teen Challenge program. The family story is told in a book by his sister titled 'It was Good enough for Father'. A great story.
